Zoo Day

Chance has been so intrigued by our zoo animal books lately.  I decided that we needed to take a trip and visit the animals.

I knew I would need some help though so I invited Ms. Barb (Chance and Savannah's day care provider) to come along.  Thank God she agreed to join us for the day.  I could not imagine what I would have done with out her.

Chance was a wild man and LOVED seeing all of the animals.

He pulled his little wagon around the entire zoo!

Both of the kids were great and so much fun to be around.

We saw all kinds of animals...monkeys, giraffes, parrots, mountain goats, flamingos....

Chance's hands down favorite is still the elephant! He goes absolutely nutty when he sees them.  It causes contagious laughter from complete strangers at the zoo!

I higly recommend visiting the elephant exhibit to anyone with young children.  Chance could spend hours there.

It was great to have Barb along for company and I felt like I got quality time with both Chance and Savannah.

We would take turns showing Chance the animals and holding Savannah to feed her.  It was team work for sure!

I caught Barb breaking the rules during one of Savannah's feeding breaks.  She said she couldn't help it.  Chance NEEDED some little animals and she HAD to buy it for  him.  "He is deprived you know"...a direct quote from Ms. Barb about breaking the buying the kids whatever they ask for rule...

I think we all had a good day and both kids slept great after being out and about.
That makes it all worth it!

Operation visit the zoo....
with a newborn, toddler, stoller, wagon, and a picnic lunch.....
accomplished.

Home Improvements

Have you ever had a hard time just sitting still?  Sometimes I think I'm crazy.  I love being at home with sweet Savannah AND I think my house looks a lot messier in the daylight.  There is so much to clean and fix in a 100 year old house...my OCD is completely in overdrive.

You'd think out of two sane parents one of us would be able to tell the other one to chill, but I think Max and I just drive each other farther.  For example, I know that he is working his tookus off in the backyard building a garage/house, and I know there is nothing that can be done about the back yard construction site.  So what do I do?  I guess I'll just give the front of our house a little makeover.  If the back is a mess, we at least want to put our best foot forward in the front right?  We don't want all of the neighbors thinking we are crazy...even if it's true.

I've hated the colors on the front of our house since we've moved in.  That's five years folks.  Savannah agreed...and together we picked out a coastal blue called night tide and started to work.

One thing led to another and before we knew it we were all decked out with a newly painted door, front porch, and some flower beds to help it all pop.

Mission accomplished! The front of our house no longer looks like an old maid lives here.

Now for the back....just in case you didn't know....this is what it looked like on 1/1/13

Max has spent countless evenings and nearly every weekend buidling the entire thing by himself.

The outside is now completely weather proof.  The roof is on and we are currently working on putting the siding up on the exterior.

It won't be long now.  We can't wait to get started on the interior.

But first we need a few long naps. Why do we do this to ourselves?

Second Cousins

I got a surprising Facebook message from my cousin Jen yesterday morning.

Her message simply said that she and her family were in Breckenridge on vacation and that they would be driving through Denver to take her kids to the aquarium.
Jen wanted to know if she could see me and meet Chance and Savannah.
I immediately responded to Jen's message, called her up, and we made a plan to get together in the evening.
I have not had an evening with Jen in over 15 years! It was amazing to be around my cousin and learn about her as an adult.

We reminisced about being kids at grandma and grandpas house and discovered that we were both very much the same people we were then.
I really enjoyed talking to Jen about her life now. It was great to meet her kids,
introduce her to mine, and to spend time together with our families.
I'm glad we got to reconnect. What a great evening!
